For more than 400 years, the small, swift and sturdy Corolla Wild Horses have run free on the Currituck Outer Banks. These beautiful Spanish mustangs can still be seen roaming the beaches.

Cupola House
For over two and a half centuries, the Cupola House has stood watch from the north shore of Edenton Bay.
 
A great activity for nature lovers and hikers, the Reserve Access Trail takes visitors into the marshy areas of Currituck County.
 
Currituck Beach Lighthouse
Climb the 214 steps to the top of the majestic, red brick lighthouse. First lit on December 1, 1875, the beacon filled the remaining “dark spot” on the North Carolina coast between Cape Henry and Bodie Island lighthouses.
 
Our spectacular championship course was rated one of the “10 Best New Places You Can Play” by Golf Magazine and in May of 1999 Golf Digest recognized The Currituck Club as one of the “Top 25 Courses in North Carolina.”
 
One of the region’s most popular destinations.  With 40 acres of land along the Currituck Sound, the park is the perfect place for outdoor activities. Kayaking, fishing, and crabbing.
 
Built in 1790, it is one of the oldest jails in North Carolina.  The original Courthouse was built in 1723.

Held the first Saturday in June, this annual celebration is a full day of activities with exhibits and demonstrations of old time ways.

Take a trip to Creswell’s Davenport Colonial Homestead and see what everyday life was like over 200 years ago. Other buildings have been moved to the site to help demonstrate life at that time.

Dismal Swamp Canal
The Dismal Swamp Canal, opened in 1805, connects the Pasquotank River in North Carolina and the Elizabeth River in Virginia and is the oldest operating artificial waterway in the US. The canal is host to nearly 2,000 pleasure boats every year and has provided transportation between NC and VA for over 200 years.
 
Dismal Swamp Canal Trail
The trail is recognized as part of the NC Birding Trail, a National Recreation Trail and the East Coast Greenway.  Begin on the southern end of the Welcome Center/State Park complex off US Hwy 17.
