The Friends of the Roanoke Rapids Public Library, the Halifax County Arts Council and LINKS present An Afternoon with Author Mary E.C. Drew discussing the post-Civil War life and works of John Jefferson Smallwood in the Roanoke Valley and southside Virginia through her book Divine Will, Restless Heart: The Life and Works of John Jefferson Smallwood.
Drew will appear at the Kirkwood Adams Community Center in Roanoke Rapids on Sunday, February 12 at 2 p.m. Adult admission to the program is $5 or admission and a copy of Divine Will, Restless Heart or her second book, A Common Country for a Common People is $13. People under age 18 and college students with ID are admitted FREE.
The afternoon will also feature music by the KIPP Pride High School Jazz Band with light refreshments and an author book signing to follow Drew’s presentation.
Tickets will be available at the Halifax County Arts Council Sip ‘N See on January 23, from LINKS members and at the Roanoke Rapids Public Library.
