Discover the Albemarle region’s rich history, culture and traditions at the Museum of the Albemarle. Located along the waterfront in Elizabeth City, the museum offers compelling exhibits and educational programs.
Scenic views fo the Paquotank River provide an enticing backdrop to the lobby’s centerpiece, a restored 1904 Albemarle Sound shad boat (North Carolina’s state boat).
The chronological exhibit Our Story, featuring a ca. 1755 Pasquotank County home, a ca. 18401s Perquimans County smokehouse, furniture, transportation items, agricultural artifacts and more, is currently evolving.
The Museum of the Albemarle encourages visitors to explore and understand the past, to reflect upon their own lives and their place in history, and to appreciate the history that shaped the Albemarle region and our country.
The museum is a part of the Division of State History Museums, Office of Archives and History, an agency of the NC Department of Cultural Resources.
