Edenton Music in the Park

Written by northeast tourist

Edenton Music in the Park is a relaxing way to enjoy small town life.  Bring a lawn chair or spead a blanket on the ground and enjoy the scenic waterfront while listening to good music.

Glenn and Anita Anderson play on July 18th from 3PM to 5PM.  They both play guitar and blend well together for a combination of original and arrranged pieces.

Take a walk on the marina pier, check out the wonderful gifts, food and decor at Edenton Bay Trading Company, and eat in one of our Sunday restaurants - Chero's, Nothin' Fancy, Mac's Back Door, Edenton Bay Oyster Bar, and our chain restaurants.

Visit the South's prettiest small town - Edenton, NC!

The statewide 2nd Saturdays program, sponsored by the NC Department of Cultural Resources and NC Historic Sites, kicked off on Saturday, June 12 at the 37 museums and historic sites across NC. The first 2nd Saturdays theme for Historic Halifax and our other Halifax County attractions that participated was Heritage Crafts, crafts created to meet people’s needs before a time of modern manufacturing.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Historic Halifax, there were demonstrations and items for sale by area artists including blacksmithing, wood turning, pottery, genealogy, painting, chair caning, quilting and crocheting. Also offered were tours of the historic buildings, delicious food and a soccer clinic for children.

The Tillery Community also had a nice representation of local crafters with quilts, crochet items, woodworking, wreaths, flower arrangements, jewelry, and homemade baked goods. The Tillery History House was also open for tours. Sylvan Heights and Medoc Mountain State Park each offered a special program at 2 p.m. Visitors could see example of the heritage craft of stone cutting at the Roanoke Canal Museum.

Mark your calendars now for the next two 2nd Saturdays programs here in Halifax County for some free family fun -  July 10: Digging into the Past and August 14: Market Fair. Go to www.visithalifax.com for local 2nd Saturdays information or www.ncculture.com for statewide program information.

The Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that Halifax County will be included in a brand-new Civil War “Living History in Motion” event, presented by in the Washington County Historical Society and Washington County Travel and Tourism Development. Entitled “ODYSSEY OF AN IRONCLAD- THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY OF THE CSS ALBEMARLE,” a working replica of the ironclad crewed by a local group of Confederate Naval Reenactors, will retrace the ironclad’s perilous April 1864 race down the treacherous Roanoke River to Plymouth and a place in the annals of Naval History.
