Stoney Branch Missionary Baptist Church

A small community church that has stood as a place of worship for Negroes for more than 138 years. The history and the heritage of the church is a symbol of freedom. It shows the mighty and strong hand of God during times of slavery.

Stoney Branch Missionary Baptist Church is a small community church that has stood as a place of worship for Negros for more than 138 years.The history and the heritage of the church will move people to come and see because, it is a symbol of freedom, God's mercy and grace and a symbol of social and economic development. It shows the mighty and strong hand of God during times of slavery. Located approximately mid-way of Gatlington Road and approximately three miles off US 13 is a small community church that has stood as a place of worship for Negros for more than 138 years. The origin was recorded in the 1870’s, after 23 Negro members of Piney Grove Baptist Church (now known as Reynoldson Baptist Church) received a letter of dismissal from the North Carolina Conference to form a Church called Stoney Branch Chapel, which was located between the Gatling Farm and the River in Gates, North Carolina. Know doubt this location was a place were Negros worshipped prior to 1870.
