St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Windsor NC was built in 1839 and is located at the corner of Queen and Gray Streets in Windsor. It is the successor of an earlier St. Thomas' Church in Merry Hill built in 1722. The Church is wooden and painted brown and has a church yard filled with graves of the leading families of Windsor. There are several slave graves in the cemetery. The epitaphs on the stones tell a wonderful story. The church is a beautiful quiet place to rest and meditate and is always open. A recent restoration has made the building accessible for the handicapped.
