Church of the Saviour and Cemetery

The 1898 stone structure, still in use today, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It has one of the oldest continually operating organs in the country.

 

Church of the Saviour and Cemetery in Jackson, NC is a wooden structure was built in 1851, and was replaced in 1898 with a stone structure. Still in use today, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It has one of the oldest continually operating Organs in the country. Building type is Funerary, construction system is granite and sandstone and the architectural style is Greek Revival. The church is located at the corner of Church and Calhoun Streets in Jackson, NC. Tours will be giving upon request with the listed contact.

What makes this place of worship stand out among others in the countie is that it is on the National Register of Historic Places. The original pipe organ, still in use, was built by George Jardine of New York City in 1849. It is one of the oldest continually operating organs in the United States. Our unique history will entice travelers to visit our wonderful town.
