See dugout canoes at Pettigrew State Park that are thousands of years old, visit colonial Davenport Homestead, the home of NC's first Senator; learn about antebellum history including the African-American culture at Somerset Place Plantation, see where the "Most Daring Mission of the Civil War" happened, and the Confederate Ironclad CSS Albemarle replica stands ready for action! Learn about maritime history at the Roanoke River Lighthouse and enjoy the outdoors along the boardwalk and nature trail! Hands-on activities are offered at certain sites by advance arrangement.
