Student Tours - Roanoke River Destination!

Time travel is possible! Washington County is the home of sites for Native American, Colonial, Antebellum, Civil War, African-American and Maritime history!

Sift through the layers of NC's human history and your students will leave with a rich experience that covers thousands of years of history in a day! See dugout canoes at Pettigrew State Park that are thousands of years old, visit colonial Davenport Homestead, the home of NC's first Senator; learn about antebellum history including the African-American culture at Somerset Place Plantation, see where the "Most Daring Mission of the Civil War" happened, and the Confederate Ironclad CSS Albemarle replica stands ready for action! Learn about maritime history at the Roanoke River Lighthouse and enjoy the outdoors along the boardwalk and nature trail! Hands-on activities are offered at certain sites by advance arrangement. Call or email the TTA office for more information.
